Double D Fire Burning Northwest of Taos PDF Print E-mail
Contributed by J. R. Ransom
Two years ago, we in Taos had forest fires burning on four sides of town. Sure they were not as close as the July 4th Pueblo fire, but still... Now here's the latest. It's called the Double D Fire.

Double D Fire
According to New Mexico Fire Information, effective Wednesday, 06-27-07, 04:27PM - The lightening caused Double D fire on private and Bureau of Land Management lands has burned approximately 400 acres west of Cerro de Los Taoses. Despite gusting winds last night, all containment lines held. Additional smoke is expected to be visible today as crews continue their burn out operations. Two type I heavy helicopters have been ordered in to make water drops. Additional air support will be called in should it become needed to aid in suppression efforts. Crews will continue to cut lines around the fire and work to strengthen existing lines. Mop up activities are expected to begin this afternoon. Fire Update PDF
