A key US ally - Pakistan's unelected president, General Pervez Musharraf - is under threat by a revolt of lawyers and opposition politicians, as well as pro-Taliban forces on the Afghan-Pakistan border. In the last few months, politically-motivated changes in the judicial system and huge demonstrations have set the stage. Now, gun battles, bombings and an assassination have brought the Pakistan political situation to a boil. This is a story largely untold in the US, but it changes the course of our future.
