Dr. Muhammad Yunus Preview of the video (3min 16sec) Muhammad Yunus: Creating a Poverty-Free World. Dr. Yunus, recently awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, offers his insights into what it will take to completely eradicate global poverty. He invisions a new kind of capitalism, and demonstrates how his creations, Grameen Bank and the Grameen Family of Companies, offer viable solutions to previously intractable challenges.
Muhammad Yunus created Grameen Bank, a bank tailored for poor people, in response to crushing poverty in his newly created country of Bangladesh. Dr Yunus: "Poverty is not caused by the poor people. Poverty is caused by the system we built. Poverty is caused by the policies we pursue." Grameen Bank has made a significant contribution to reducing poverty in Bangladesh. Since Grameen's creation in the 1970s, live expectancy has risen more than 20 years, the fertility rate has been cut in half. It has been estimated that each year 200,000 Grameen members and their families escape poverty..."
