 Meteor Crash in Peru Illness After Peru 'Meteor Crash' Video (1min 9sec) - Hundreds of people have fallen ill after visiting the crash site of a supposed meteorite in Peru. Gases from the meteorite are believed to be causing headaches, nausea and vomiting. Bernard Smith reports.
"It came from outer space say the locals. A giant meteor smashing to earth leaving this 20 meters wide and 7 meters deep crater." Romulo Quispe, local resident: "I was standing nearby. It exploded and knocked me back three meters."
"The alien minerals that made up the molten ball of fire are now being blamed for a mystery illness that's affecting 200 villagers the site near Lake Titicaca in southern Peru. A geologist in the region said a reaction between the elements in the meteor and the earth's surface can create gases that later dissipate.
