Video (3min 3sec) of TV actor Sam Waterston speaking about a new political movement called Unity08 a chance to pick the next president directly.
"My name is Sam Waterston. You may have seen me on TV, but I haven't spoken out like this before. You and I have something very much in common. We've both 'had it' with today's shameful state of politics. Fortunately the recent congressional elections have served to reenergize our imaginations and raise our expectations. Recent election results may be a breath of fresh air for some of us but we'd all do well to remember that a breath of fresh air is a long way from a strong and persistent wind of change.
Let's not forget the character of the 2006 campaigns. The ads. The attacks. The blame game. The endless money and the strings attached to it. The avoidance of the crucial issues.
Despite the election, lobbyist corruption and bitter partizanship remains the reality in Washington. Proof positive that the system is broken and that a third force in the middle is essential to fix it. As you know, the year 2008 will soon be here. And our choice again will be between 'the lesser of two evils' when it comes to the presidential candidates who get on the November 2008 ballot.
I can't accept that. Cannot and will not. And I hope you won't accept it either. I volunteered to speak up for a brand new movement called Unity08. It's our chance to pick the next president directly. And we must start preparing right now..."
