NM Impeachment Report
News Report video about New Mexico Senate Resolution 5 calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney The Channel 7 news report said, "It may be a first of it's kind. State Lawmakes calling for the impeachment of President Bush. And as Action 7 news reported David Roberts found, some folks were fired up about the measure even if there wasn't any debate." Roberts: "The crowd overflowed into the hall way. Inside the room it was hard to find a seat as state Democrats took a stand against the nation's top Republican. 'I also noticed in the newspaper that the newspaper is claiming that we shouldn't waste our time on things that don't concern us' (Laughter in room)
The senate rules committee gathered to debate a resolution that would ask congress to impeach President Bush. Except there wasn't much of a debate. Not a single Republican showed up at the hearing to argue the President's case. And so in a unanimous vote the Democrats passed it and the resolution is on it's way to the Senate floor for consideration. We spoke to the senior Republican on the rules committee, Senator Rod Adair. He said that his fellow republicans on the committee had more pressing issues than dealing with symbolic and partisan gesture that would have zero affect on the lives of New Mexicans. As for those who support the measure they seemed disappointed by the lack of debate. 'That is sad. And that's all the more reason for us to applaud the victory today...' The resolution was introduced by Senators Jerry Ortiz y Pino and John Grubesic.

If you live in New Mexico, please send
state Senators a message something like this (change and expand as you
like):
I'd like to encourage you to please cosponsor, along with Senators
Ortiz y Pino and Grubesic, the resolution to petition the U.S. House of
Representatives to impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney. If
we go into the next presidency having established that a president can
lie us into war, spy on us in violation of the law, detain without
charge, and torture, we will be throwing away the democracy we've
struggled to keep and expand for over 200 years. We all have a solemn
duty to work for the impeachment of men who have made our executive
branch of government into a monarchy. You are in a position to play a
key role in making this happen. Please do the right thing. Make the
choice you would want your great grandchildren to be proud of.
This campaign will not succeed without financial assistance.
