Mike Reynolds LONDON, England (CNN) -- CNN caught up
with Michael Reynolds, "biotect" of Earthships, in Taos, New Mexico.
What are your hopes for the future of Earthships?
It
started off as individual homes, now we have two or three communities
going. I hope to see in my lifetime to see towns and cities built this
way. If you're a huge developer and you want to build a small town you
have to put in millions of dollars of infrastructure before you begin.
I
could start building a city tomorrow. I could just take a pick-up
truck, a hammer, a shovel and a tire and start building a house that
takes care of itself that would be the first house of a city. The city
use of this is where I'm hoping it will go, and I think it will.

Solar Panels on Roof The Future of Solar Energy Home By Chad Hartman. Dreaming and fantasizing are the first step towards innovation. People all over the world and especially in America are dreaming of a green world where there will be only solar power energizing the needs of the entire country.
Experts feel that in five years, solar power will be cheap enough to compete with conventional electricity, even in UK, Africa, Australia and India. If that is the case more and more people will use solar energy in their homes. In a decade, the cost may have fallen so dramatically that solar cells could undercut oil, gas and coal. Technology is leaping ahead towards eco friendly, pollution free and a green future with the advent of solar energy homes. |

President Pratibha Patil Pratibha Patil and the March Towards Gender Equality By Punit Arora. Ms. Pratibha Patil is the new President of India. When compared with his/her American counterpart, the office of the Indian President has limited powers and functions, but it still is constitutionally a very significant office. Does, therefore, the rise of Patil to this office represent a significant change especially for the Indian woman, who often also happens to be the global face of repressed woman? Or, is it merely, as the critics have pointed out, symbolism to the fore, yet once more?
While the critics have been quick to dismiss her, and judging from the internet responses readers seem to concur with them, I will risk playing the devil’s advocate. First, let’s look at the charges against Patil: corruption, anti-Muslim disposition, lack of national stature, being a puppet in the dynastic politics, and all this in the name of promoting women’s cause! |

Old Paradigm TV 2.0 - The Future of Television and the Genesis of a New Entertainment Form - Part 1. By Michael L. Collins. Entertainment is undergoing a paradigm shift. How, where and when we watch movies or television programs is changing. In the next decade the integration of traditional entertainment platforms with the web will transform our lives just as TV itself did more than a half century ago. For the television industry, especially, panic and worry have already set in despite the fact that they currently hold the same monopoly on our entertainment choices that they've enjoyed for decades. Perhaps they suspect the coming transformation in entertainment won't be of their own making?
Because of this, some people fear the television networks are facing extinction, or at the very least are facing a challenge from the web much like TV posed the motion picture industry in the 1950s. However, any eulogies over the death of TV are most likely premature. What's happening to television, and to a lesser extent to motion pictures, is similar to what happened to the music industry several years ago. |

New Mexico Airlines New Mexico Airlines Should Fly to Taos. There's a neat new airline called New Mexico Air (NMA). Right now, New Mexico Air flies between Albuquerque, Carlsbad, Hobbs, and Santa Fe. NMA would also like to fly to Taos. That's a great idea! Many people miss having airline service with regularly scheduled flights to Albuquerque. Here's how you can take action to help.
Pattee Brown writes: "...Marc Coan has worked very diligently with a number of other very hard working people to try and secure an airline that will do shuttle service in and out of Taos and he is in the final decision making process with New Mexico Airlines. There is much to be said about this company, including the fact that they are out of other smaller towns and have a way of differing their costs, thereby making their ability to be successful out of Taos much more promising than previous airlines.
"Please note... this has NOTHING to do with the current debate on airport
expansion... this is simply trying to bring flight service BACK to Taos. |
