Solar Thermal Testing Cheap Solar Power is Coming Soon! Really cool Video (1min 54sec) of Solar Thermal Testing at Angel's Nest - fresnel lens and turbines. Sir Charles explains and demonstrates Low cost solar thermal power system - sunlight to turbine power.
"This is the prototype solar energy collection system that we've designed. It's being put together and tested for the first time today. We've already circulated oil through it. Just in a static test, sunlight raised the temperature in our heat collector pipes to over 180şF. As soon as we have the suntracking on this in a continuous basis we should be able to generate 6,000 watts of electrical power and heat waste power as a result."
Angel's Nest, the sustainable energy demonstration showcase in Taos, New Mexico, built by Robert Plarr and Victoria Peters, incorporates wind and solar power, a renewable hydrogen fueling station, and integrated greenhouses in a unique closed loop, grid-independent energy and water replenishment cycle. |

Dry Aral Sea Video (3min 15sec): Water Everywhere But Not a Drop to Drink. Leaders recognize World Environment Day, but do little to deal with water crisis. "We do not have a relationship with water which is historical. We have a relationship with water which is invasive, which is confrontational."
"Water is central to the global environmental crisis. Rising sea levels, polluted water systems, and dried up lakes and rivers are just a tip of the iceberg. Many low lying Pacific islands are in danger of disappearing under water soon.
Russia's Lake Baikal holds one-fifth of the world's fresh water resources. Industrial plant waste, the poaching of Baikal's fish, and chaotic construction are all ruining the lake's ecological composition.
Russia's Aral Sea, once one of the world's largest inland seas, is now a desert... |

Arctic Sunrise Video (2min 21sec): Greenpeace Vessel Attacked. Cypriot Channel, Turkey — Three Turkish tuna fishing vessels surrounded the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise in the Cypriot Channel this morning, with crew from one vessel attacking the ship with lead weights.
Greenpeace is in the area to call for an end to unsustainable fishing and to call for the establishment of a marine reserve between Cyprus and Turkey.
"We understand that these guys are angry. And we're angry too. But the real problem here has been caused by the refusal of governments to regulate an industry that's fishing itself to death."
"We've been here in the Cypriot Channel for several days now. This is one of the breeding grounds of blue fin tuna in the Mediterranean Sea and Greenpeace is calling for this area to be protected as a high seas marine reserve." |

James Steele Video (8min 13sec): Monsanto's Harvest of Fear Part 2. Monsanto already dominates America's food chain with its genetically modified seeds. Now it has targeted milk production.
Just as frightening as the corporation's tactics—ruthless legal battles against small farmers—is its decades-long history of toxic contamination. Democracy Nows Amy Goodman speaks to James Steele, contributing editor at Vanity Fair.
James Steele on Monsanto: "I think the biggest issue is the tactics that they use going about enforcing those patents... Other companies have also developed genetically modified seeds. They do not have the reputation in the heartland does in terms of these tactics..." |

Harvest of Fear Video: Monsanto's Harvest of Fear Part 1.
"While the rising cost of food around the world pushes millions into deeper hunger and scarcity, agricultural companies like Monsanto are posting record profits. The top seed maker in the world, Monsanto's stock has gained 95% over the past year and 1600% over the past 5 years. Monsantos' profits topped $1.6 Billion in the first quarter, up 37% over the same quarter last year.
