Mon admiration pour mes héros, Kaliayev et Dora, est entière. J'ai seulement voulu montrer que l'action elle-même avait des limites. Il n'est de bonne et de juste action que celle qui reconnaît ces limites et qui, s'il lui faut les franchir, accept au moins la mort. Notre monde nous montre aujourd'hui une face répugnante, justement parce qu'il est fabriqué des hommes qui s'accordent le droit de franchir ces limites, et d'abord de tuer les autres, sans mourir eux-mêmes. Politico reports that former Senator Bob Dole "sent a scalding email to Scott McClellan, excoriating the former White House spokesman as a 'miserable creature'." Dole, said the story, used his "trademark biting wit to portray McClellan as a classic Washington opportunist," writing in his email, "[Y]our type soaks up the benefits of power, revels in the limelight for years, then quits, and spurred on by greed, cashes in." . . . Not long after the 9/11 attacks, lobbyist Howard Marlowe sought help for the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA). A letter to Congress his firm helped prepare said that the economic fallout from the attacks paled "in comparison with the unspeakable human losses of that day," but said that urgent action was nonetheless required-specifically, lavishing money on wealthy beach communities.
