He has been the principal investigator in a psychedelic research program at the Psychiatric Research Institute in Prague, Czechoslovakia, chief of psychiatric research at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, assistant professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, and scholar-in-residence at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. It was at Esalen that he codeveloped, with his wife Christina Grof, Holotropic Breathwork, a technique that includes deep, connected breathing, music, art, and trained facilitation with the goal wholeness, healing, and wisdom. |

If you keep this in your mind your suffering will be less. The nature provides you more than I deserve. Then you will be grateful every moment of your life. The more you are grateful, the more you get. But if you think you deserve it, then whatever you may get you feel a lack. You feel, 'I have not got what I should be getting.' If this thing goes in the mind, 'I should be getting more, because I deserve more, the lack consciousness makes that same thing grow. That brings more suffering in life. Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. |

'In the Southwest, many of our tribes share an emergence story which tells the story of our struggle to ascend through four different worlds. The first world was fire. A burning mass split from the sun to create Earth. We have given that world the color Red. It is a world opened to the east. The second world was breath, formed from the mists of time.
