Whether you dream of racing down a steep hill or taking a leisurely ride on an easy trail, mountain biking is a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time.

Hiking How to Get Prepared For Hiking by Jim Brown1. Your decision to take up hiking involves some basic physical conditioning to get you prepared. Along with this criterion of being basically fit, there are some other things you can do for additional preparedness for hiking. Some sound advice will always keep you in good stead, no matter where you may be hiking – in the Himalayan Mountains or in those in Torrevieja, Spain.
It is important that the soles of your feet are a bit toughened up to prepare them for the hike because you could well be trekking in rough terrain. As much as possible, walk barefoot around the house and your yard. You can consider moving your ‘cardio routine’ to the beach, as walking or jogging on sand will help in toughening your soles and loosening up the muscles and ligaments in your feet.
Another ‘essential’ is proper foot care. Before you put on your shoes, moisturize your feet and ensure they are dry. Check blog.vacationhawaiihotels.com for foot powder using technique if your feet sweat excessively, as excessive moisture can lead to dry, chafed soles and fungal infections. Your toenails should be trimmed a little below the tip of the toe, but not too short. To reduce the chance of ingrown toenails, cut them straight across, rather than rounded. |

Horseback Riding Zen and the Art of Horseback Riding By Phyllis Coletta. Horses inspire awe and fear in many people, given their massive girth and noted unpredictability. They are, therefore, one of the best teachers we have available to us. Any time we fear something it has power over us. Horses are bred to serve and in fact this service gives them pleasure. Learning to ride a horse, therefore, is less about domination than servitude. If we can appreciate the horse’s mission and work with him, riding becomes a shared pleasure.
Surprisingly, men are often more afraid of riding than women. The vast majority of riders under the age of 18 are girls, and much has been written about the psychology of horses and adolescent girls. It is surprising indeed to see a tiny, bony 12 year old standing with confidence next to a 1200 pound mare, both of them swishing their pony tails. Typically, grown men have more muscle mass than women yet they show more fear in approaching a horse, being bred themselves to believe that physical strength means domination and, perhaps, pain. This is why learning to ride a horse is enormously beneficial, and not just for men. Horses challenge us to reevaluate our traditional notions of strength and power. |

Whitewater Rafting Understanding River Rapid Classifications By Richard Chapo. There is something about rapids on a river that make people excited. Oh, yeah. I gotta try that! Before you hop into the river on a kayak, raft, canoe or branch, you need to take a minute to understand river classifications.
Not all whitewater on a river is equal. Some rapids come in the form of minor disturbances that are fun, but not too treacherous. On the other end of the scale, there are the rapids where you are sure death is feet away and it may very well be. So, how do you know if you are going to get a little excitement, a medium level or a meeting with your maker? You just look up the classification of the rapids in front of you or read on.
Rivers are classified in the same way across the world. Hey, at least we can all agree on something! In the case of rivers, the classification is known as the International Scale of River Difficulty or ISRD. There are six basic classifications, but people have also developed sub-classes. We’ll avoid those for now and look at the big six. |
