Earthship
Weather Channel's Alternative Homes Video (7min 30sec): Earthship Biotecture featuring Mike Reynolds. Earthship eco-friendly homes are built with discarded materials, and they're also "off the grid." That means they're totally energy independent. How cool is that?

"As we look at different solutions to help curb global warming, it's important to keep in mind that each one of us can make a differnce. Arte de Descartes VII
Arte de Descartes VII Video - This local Taos video (2min 17sec) is about the seventh annual trash art and the singular Glam Trash Fashion show party, The Stables Gallery and Courtyard, August 25, 2007, Taos New Mexico. Taos has its own style and fashion sense. This video gives a glimpse.

Arte de Descartes VII, seventh annual recycled art show took place from August 25 - September 8, 2007 at the Stables Art Center located at 133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte in Taos. This show represents an unusual collection of artistic expression, all made from mostly recycled materials. Traditional recycled art like patchwork quilts, rag rugs, rag dolls, forged metal, collage, sculpture, mosaic are all made with ingenuity from bits and pieces of whatever is on hand. It encompasses many different mediums because our waste stream is so vast. Sponsored by local non-profit Wholly Rags and juried by esteemed artists, Tom Noble, Ed Larson and Maye Torres, participating artists are represented from coast to coast.

Some time around 1971 Texas businessmen started buying land around the Chama and Red River areas northern New Mexico and proposed a $16 million dam east of Taos and in the end these businessmen controlled most of the water rights thereby forcing many farmers to sell their farm.

Also these developers moved in and made resorts like the one in Red River New Mexico, square dance capital of the world. Red River New Mexico is like the resort you see in the movie "Dirty Dancing" except that it's all square dancing where the best come to strut their stuff. As the resorts moved in Land values increased and property taxes increased for private farmers and the farmers could not afford to live on their ranchos so many had to sell out to the land developers.
