Chris Hedges Democracy Now video (18 min 54 sec) of interview with Pulitzer Prize winning author Chris Hedges's new book examines how Christian dominionists are seeking absolute power and a Christian state. According to Hedges, the movement bears a strong resemblance to the young fascist movements in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and '30s. Hedges is the former New York Times Middle East bureau chief and author of "War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning." Chris Hedges has spoken at Bataan Hall in Taos.
Amy Goodman: "Why did you write this book?" Chris Hedges: "Anger. I grew up in the church and of course graduated from seminary and I think these people have completely perverted and distorted and manipulated the Christian message into something that is the very antithesis of certainly what Jesus preached in the gospels." |

Tim Robbins Video and transcript of Tim Robbins speech on January 27 2007 "Is Impeachment Still Off the Table?" Speaking at the Washington, D. C. peace rally, actor Tim Robbins said: "...Some have said recently that impeachment is off the table." (Crowd yells "No".) "What was that?" (Crowd yells "No", again.) "On the train coming down here today I talked to a young woman whose brother has just been deployed. Due to the recent Bush escalation, her brother is being rushed into action. George W. Bush This video in support HR4232 is about US Representative Jim McGovern's bills to stop funding the Iraq War. It featrures Jim McGovern speaking about the bill and various footage of President George W. Bush flip flopping on his story about the war and what led to it. The video begins with: "The war cost 11 million dollars an hour. Nearly ("more than" - ed.) 3,000 troops have been killed. Another 30,000 wounded. And 600,000 Iraqi civilians dead. We were lied into this war. It's time to face the truth and get out." There is a strong comparison between Iraq War and the Vietnan War, including footage of young John Kerry testifying to Congress and how the courage of Congresswoman Bella Abzug caused Congress to cut off funding for the Vietnam War. "It's time to recognize that the US hs done enough damage. That this policy is a failure." - Rep Jim McGovern. |

"When it comes to Iraq, America's divided. On the one hand you've got two-thirds of the American people, a bi-partisan majority in congress, the Iraq Study Group, and veterans like us, all opposed to the escalation. On the other hand, there's George Bush who supports escalation. If you support escalation, you don't support the troops. Join the troops. Stop the escalation." |
