Lifestyle Freedom Retirement Lifestyle Freedom by Don Seibert. By the term Retirement Freedom, I mean a non-traditional retirement away from the work-a-day world. I call this “Fretirement” since it is a lifestyle that is free from all of the expectations that most of us have with retirement. In "Fretirement", you don’t necessarily quit working, rather you quit having to work.
Why go through all of the traditional drudgery associated with a traditional job? Who really wants to spend an hour or more each day commuting to and from an office? Is there anybody who really enjoys office politics and ladder climbing? Or how about the words “outsource” and “downsize” and “layoff”? Can you really get excited about these things? Do you really want to spend a large portion of your earnings for fuel to get to work and for overpriced and unhealthy food during “lunch hour”? |

Orson Welles Satellite Radio: When the Old Becomes New Again by Christine Peppler. Radio was born many generations ago. Serial dramas and comedies, news, and live concerts entered homes with a crackling signal. Later, portable transistor and car radios allowed people to listen as they went about their business or at least until the weather or distance eliminated the signal.
Other options for enjoying music evolved however and radio started to fade as an entertainment medium as the years went by. Radio struggled to compete with the crystal clear digital music offered by portable CD, DVD, and MP3 players for their home and travels; no commercials to interrupt the enjoyment and no fading signal. Audiences changed and the tastes of listeners expanded. A dozen or so receivable stations could no longer deliver the diversity of programming that was desired. For some, the regulations of the FCC also quelled some of the "edgier" entertainment that they craved. |

New-Age English New-Age English By Uma Shankari. “She’s a gr8 friend and I spk 2 her everyday,” wrote Maya, studying in Florence Public School in RT Nagar at Bangalore, when asked to write an essay on ‘Your best friend’.
Her teacher was horrified: has the web-slanguage of the student spilled over from the chat room to the class room? Maya says that she was in a hurry to finish the test on time and hadn’t noticed what she had written. That had been the teacher’s fear too: have the youngsters become so used to writing u instead of you, so used to ignoring the capitalizations, so used to omitting the punctuations and vowels and articles in the chat room that they find nothing odd in their writing? |
