White House Press Briefings
  • Press Briefing by Tony Fratto - 10/02/2008
MR. FRATTO: Good afternoon, everyone. I want to read something about a -- some legislation that was passed last night. I know a lot of people were focused on the financial rescue package, the emergency legislation that was passed in the Senate last night, and I'm sure we'll spend some time discussing that.

  • Press Briefing by Tony Fratto - 10/01/2008
MR. FRATTO: Good morning, everyone. So, of course, you have the news that Majority Leader Reid made on the Senate floor last night, after he and the Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell, Senator McConnell, were able to get unanimous consent to consider legislation this evening on the financial rescue package. As I say, obviously we greatly appreciate the leadership of both leaders to modify this bill and be able to bring it to the floor -- and to modify it in a way that we believe significantly improves the chances of ultimately being passed by both chambers and finding its way to the President's desk.

  • Press Briefing by Tony Fratto - 09/30/2008
MR. FRATTO: Good morning, everyone. Just a couple things to note. The President we haven't given you a schedule for what the President will be doing on the next two days. I say at least for tomorrow, Thursday, the President I'm sorry, today is Tuesday.

  • Press Briefing by Tony Fratto - 09/29/2008
MR. FRATTO: Good afternoon, everyone. Let me make a couple quick announcements and then we can get to questions -- and I'm sure questions of the day.

  • Press Briefing by Dana Perino - 09/26/2008
MS. PERINO: All right. I will have an update for you about the President's activities on the economy in a moment, so bear with me though, I have a couple of other things. The President at 2:05 p.m. today will have a secure video teleconference with PRT leaders, provincial reconstruction team leaders in Afghanistan, and President Karzai will join him for that. PRTs are helping to improve the lives of Afghan citizens, and they'll have a chance to hear about their progress.

  • Press Briefing by Dana Perino - 09/25/2008
MS. PERINO: Good morning. Very busy day at the White House. I'm going to give you a couple of points. The President had a meeting with the President of Lebanon earlier that you were there for. He also signed the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 Amendments of 2008. He then met with the Orthodox Union Leadership to acknowledge the 110th anniversary of the Orthodox Union's founding, and wished the Jewish people a very happy New Year.

  • Press Briefing by Dana Perino, and Keith Hennessey, Director of the National Economic Council - 09/19/2008
MS. PERINO: Good morning -- almost good afternoon. I have a quick statement for you. This morning you've heard from both the President and Secretary Paulson on the steps that are being taken to address the very serious concerns in our financial markets. As the President said, this is a pivotal moment for the U.S. economy. The President is concerned about the impact that the problems in the financial markets would have on all Americans, affecting their family finances and retirement accounts, their ability to get loans for homes, autos and educations, and for the ability of their workplaces to grow and create jobs.

  • Press Briefing by Dana Perino - 09/18/2008
MS. PERINO: Hello. You just heard from the President on the financial markets. Obviously that's priority number one here. But let me give you one other announcement for next week, a scheduling update, that President Bush looks forward to meeting with the new democratically elected President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, on Tuesday, September 23rd, in New York. The two leaders will discuss efforts to strengthen the bilateral relationship and build a long-term partnership based on common values. President Zardari, who carries on the legacy of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and President Bush are expected to focus on cooperation in combating terrorism, strengthening the economy, and fostering democracy in Pakistan.

  • Press Briefing by Dana Perino - 09/17/2008
MS. PERINO: Hi, everybody. Let me do a couple updates here. President Bush is currently meeting with General David Petraeus, who departed earlier this week as the Commander of Multi-National Force in Iraq. General Petraeus has served this country admirably over the last 19 months in Iraq, and will continue to serve his country as the next Commander of U.S. Central Command, a post he will assume the end of October.

  • Press Briefing by Dana Perino - 09/15/2008
MS. PERINO: Good afternoon. Obviously, one of the biggest stories of the day is what's happening in our financial market. Secretary Paulson has graciously given us some of his time today -- he doesn't have an endless supply of it, so please keep that in mind, and we'll try to let him answer as many questions as he can before he needs to go. And then I'll come back up and finish up the briefing.
