Instead, he says they are making the world full of poverty. And that some of the biggest multinationals are banking on it to help them make a killing in poor countries. "Exxon, BP, Chevron, Halliburton. These are some of the biggest multinationals in the world and they've recently recorded some of their biggest profits, ever. Why do these companies need loans from the World Bank?"

"Banking On It" - This video (9min 1sec) is a People & Power Investigation of the World Bank, how it began, and what it does. In 1947, the World Bank gave its first loan - $250 million for France's post-war construction. Since then, it has grown to 185 member governments and provides loans and development assistance to poor countries, with the aim of poverty reduction.

While the bank's clients are almost exclusively developing countries, the World Bank is controlled primarily by developed countries. Speaking to aid and democracy experts, as well those receiving the loans, Max Keiser take a takes a colourful look at their reality.
