3 Videos. Three recently released video that is an intimate insight into world-renowned artist, Taos'-own, R. C. Gorman.
Jussta interviews R.C. Gorman at his studio in his home in Taos, New Mexico prior to his 20-yr (actually, lifetime) Retrospective at the Millicent Rogers Gallery.
R.C. is shown painting, several of his fine art are shown. Some of his art and famous collectors photographs are shown.
Gorman grew up in a traditional Navajo Hogan and began drawing at age 3. His grandmother helped raise him, recounting Navajo legends and enumerating his genealogy of artist ancestors. She kindled his desire to become an artist. While tending sheep in Canyon de Chelly with his aunts, he used to draw on the rocks, sand, and mud, and made sculptures with the clay, with his earliest subjects including Mickey Mouse and Shirley Temple.
Harvard University recognized him for "notable contributions to American art and Native American culture" in 1986, and Mayor Dianne Feinstein of San Francisco declared March 19 to be "Gorman Day".
His famous friends and collectors of his work included Elizabeth Taylor, Danny DeVito, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Barry Goldwater, Gregory Peck, Erma Bombeck, Lee Marvin, Jackie Onassis and even fellow artist Andy Warhol, who silk-screened a portrait of Gorman that hung in his bathroom.
Part 1 is the interview, he plays the piano and speaks about his retrospective art show at the Millicent Rogers Gallery in Taos, New Mexico.
Part 2 - R.C. paints and hangs out with Jussta.
Part 3 - Jussta of Taos shows many different R.C. Gorman Paintings and sculptures in Part 3 of R.C.'s 20-Year Retrospective which was held at the Millicent Rogers Gallery in Taos, New Mexico. Shows R.C.'s model and him painting in his studio in his beautiful home.
