The Pakistani region of Waziristan has come into focus recently with the US military launching several air strikes in the area.
Kamal Hyder spent time with Pakistani troops on the front lines in North Waziristan and sent us this report.
Across the border in Afghanistan lies Khost province where the Taliban have stepped up attacks on the US led coalition forces.
But here on the Pakistani side an uneasy calm prevails...
