His philosophy emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social relationships, jutice and sincerity. These values gained prominence in China over other doctrines, such as Legalism or Taoism during the Han Dynasty (206 BC220 AD). Confucius’ thoughts have been developed into a system of philosophy known as Confucianism. It was introduced to Europe by the Jesuit Matteo Ricci, who was the first to Latinise the name as “Confucius.”

US Senate Wants to Punish China for Yuan

The Chinese Yuan artificially valuedFacing election-year pressure over unemployment, US senators have introduced legislation that would impose tough new penalties on China if it failed to revalue its currency.

The legislation, which enjoys support from both sides of the political aisle, would punish currency manipulation as an unfair subsidy and could trigger a set of retaliatory US action.

The move came as lawmakers in Washington stepped up criticism of China ahead of November mid-term US elections, accusing Beijing of securing an unfair edge in trade by keeping the yuan artificially low.

It also follows Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao strong statement at the weekend that Beijing would resist any foreign pressure for a stronger yuan.

Reformist Qing Emperor was Murdered in 1908

BEIJING -- Arsenic poisoning killed Guangxu, a late Qing dynasty emperor who inspired the hopes of reformists but lost in power struggles with his conservative aunt, China’s Xinhua news agency said on Monday.

Guangxu, who lived from 1871 to 1908, was a favorite of Chinese intellectuals hoping to reform the decaying dynasty and save the country from encroachment by Western powers.

Guangxu’s support for a constitutional monarchy was destroyed by his aunt Cixi, the powerful Empress Dowager, who mounted a coup in 1898 that ended his Hundred Days of Reform — a period of sweeping new edicts that sought to modernize the country and succeeded only in alienating the bureaucracy.
